워런트 카나리는 법적 장치입니다. 제공업체가 요청에 조용히 협조하도록 강제되고 동시에 이를 공개하는 것이 금지되는 관할권에서는, 긍정적인 성명을 갱신하지 않는 방식으로 변화를 알릴 수 있습니다. 카나리가 오래된 상태가 되면 제공업체가 명령에 대해 직접 말하지 않아도 사용자는 무언가 달라졌음을 알 수 있습니다.

아래 발행일 기준으로 ServPrivate는 다음을 확인합니다: 1. National Security Letter(NSL)를 받은 적이 없습니다. 2. gag order 또는 비공개 명령을 받은 적이 없습니다. 3. 어떤 정부 기관의 warrant도 받은 적이 없습니다. 4. 비밀 명령에 따라 고객 데이터를 제3자에게 공개한 적이 없습니다. 5. backdoor, interception 또는 lawful-access 메커니즘을 설치한 적이 없습니다. 6. 매월 1일에 갱신됩니다. 예정일로부터 10일 이내에 갱신되지 않으면 그 부재에는 의미가 있다고 봐야 합니다.

왜 a canary not perfect인가요?



일부 관할권에서는 당국이 갱신 자체를 강제하려 할 수 있습니다. 완벽한 법적 메커니즘은 존재하지 않습니다. 카나리아는 자체 호스팅, 암호화, 관할권 다양화 등 여러 신호 중 하나일 뿐이며, 만능 해결책이 아닙니다.
